Simon Jordan suggests Joe Lewis’ real role in Daniel Levy’s Tottenham sacking
Simon Jordan has offered his verdict on Joe Lewis’ involvement in Daniel Levy’s Tottenham departure with a belief that disagreements between the pair led to the decision.
Many Tottenham supporters will have thought they would never see the day where Daniel Levy was to leave their football club, but the wishes of the majority of the fanbase have now come true.
Spurs have seen some changes made to their board in recent years prior to this major shake-up, after American businessman Joe Lewis ceased control as owner in October 2022, with his stakes in the club passed to the Lewis Family Trust.
Initial reports claimed that Levy had stepped down as Tottenham chairman, but The Times (5 September) soon claimed that he was actually sacked by his higher-ups
Lots of Tottenham fans are happy that Levy has gone after his 24 years in charge, and it has now been claimed that Lewis must have been involved in the decision following a potential fallout between the pair.

Levy still had meetings in his diary as Tottenham chairman on the day he was relieved of his duties, so it is clear to see that he was not expecting to leave the club so soon in the manner that he did.
Speaking live on talkSPORT on Monday (8 September), former Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordan offered his verdict on the decision to sack Levy, claiming that Lewis will have made the decision and that a fallout must have happened to lead to his exit.
He said: “This is not about football, this is about power and money. This is about who decides what something is sold for and when it is sold…unless Joe Lewis is senile now, it’s Joe Lewis that is making this decision, I would imagine that something relatively significant has changed in their relationship.”
Tottenham did the right thing in telling Daniel Levy to leave
Football Insider verdict
While many Tottenham fans have celebrated Levy’s departure after a long 24-year stint in charge, there are still some that have thanked him for his service and the way the club has risen off the pitch, as well as on it, in recent times.
Spurs are a major force within English football, even if their recent trophy haul does not reflect such a standing, and Levy was a key part of them getting to this point, but the club have done the right thing in relieving him of his duties ahead of a potential new era under Thomas Frank.
Trophy | Year won |
League Cup | 2008 |
Europa League | 2025 |
Tottenham have failed to sign a number of targets under Levy’s stewardship over the years, and fans had grown tired of their constant failures in the market, with things seemingly coming to a head after Eberechi Eze’s move to the club was hijacked by arch-rivals Arsenal last month.
There is clearly progress to be made under recently-appointed boss Frank, but it does feel as if Spurs have needed fresh backing and impetus in the boardroom to really challenge at the top in the years to come, so Levy’s exit should be respected, but the decision by the club should be praised.
