Sir Alex Ferguson cited amid ‘frightening’ Celtic vs Aberdeen showdown

Celtic need to be wary of ‘title contenders’ Aberdeen in their top-of-the-table clash on Saturday (October 19) after their unbeaten start to the season.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Bhoys striker Frank McAvennie has been impressed by Aberdeen’s start to the season and has compared them to the side who won three Scottish Premier League titles under Sir Alex Ferguson.

Manager Jimmy Thelin has led the club to their best start to a Scottish Premier League season since 1984-85, when they last won the league title under the legendary Ferguson.

Both sides have a 100 per cent record after their first seven games although the current champions have conceded five fewer goals than Aberdeen.

Celtic vs Aberdeen set to be a blockbuster clash

Brendan Rodgers’ side look well on their way to their fourth consecutive Scottish Premier League title but Aberdeen won’t go down without a fight.

After years of the traditional top two dominating Scottish football, the four-time champions could offer Celtic their first real title challenge in some time.

I can’t remember the last time they went this long without getting beat”, McAvennie told Football Insider.

“Sir Alex Ferguson was the last one to do that at Aberdeen, you know he got them, he had a team coming down and they fancied their chances every time they came to Celtic or Rangers.

“This man’s come in I don’t think they’ve got a team to frighten Celtic at the moment but if they keep winning games, confidence grows and people become better players.

“It’s going to be interesting but I think Celtic will put them in their place.”
