‘Sir Jim Ratcliffe could quit Man United in jaw-dropping move – it’s time to go’
Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s Man United hell has continued after the Red Devils lost the Europa League final against Tottenham on Wednesday (21 May).
That blow comes after the Sunday Times’ 2025 Rich List (16 May) revealed Ratcliffe has lost around £6.5billion of his personal wealth in the last 12 months.
He took a 27.7% stake at Man United in February 2024 and assumed responsibility for football operations at Old Trafford.
The Glazer Family’s drag-along rights will become active within months, potentially forcing Ratcliffe to sell his stake if a full takeover is agreed with a third party.
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed Ratcliffe may be happy to “take the cash and move on” after his torrid start to life as co-owner.
Ratcliffe will hate ‘criticism and personal vendettas’, says Wyness
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted the challenge for Ratcliffe at Man United will have “proved harder than he would’ve thought”.
The billionaire was crucial to the announcement of a 100,000-seat new stadium near the site of Old Trafford earlier this year – a rare piece of good news for United fans.
Wyness claimed Ratcliffe won’t be “too upset” to move on from Man United.
He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “Ratcliffe, from what we’ve seen in the Rich List, has lost around £6.5billion of his own wealth this year.
“He may see Man United as becoming an even bigger drag on his wealth. He may be losing patience, just as he has with a lot of his other sporting assets.
“Ratcliffe, in talks with the Glazers, may decide there is a number he will be happy to get out at.
“I don’t think he’d be too upset. He’s had a go, but it will have proved harder than he would’ve thought.
“He’s made big mistakes, he will hate the criticism and personal vendettas – so he may decide to take the cash and move on.”

Saudi giants plot £80m Fernandes swoop
Meanwhile, Football Insider has revealed (23 May) that Al Hilal are preparing an £80m offer to Man United to try and persuade them to cash in on Bruno Fernandes.
The 30-year-old has notched 19 goals and 17 assists in 56 appearances this season.
Fernandes is under contract at Old Trafford until June 2027.
