Sir Jim Ratcliffe hit by Man United ‘disaster’ – Keith Wyness

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has claimed Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s first months at Man United have been a “disaster PR-wise”.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – ranked the new part-owner’s involvement so far at a “five or six” out of ten.

Ratcliffe and INEOS finalised the 25 per cent purchase of Man United in February after months of speculation and took over control of footballing matters at Old Trafford.

Since then, the club have recorded their lowest-ever Premier League finish – ending up eighth in the table with a goal difference of minus one.

As a result, it is believed Erik ten Hag’s job is now under threat – with Football Insider revealing on 7 May that he will be sacked as Man United manager at the end of the season even if they win the FA Cup.

Wyness insisted more “leadership and experience” is required in the Red Devils side going forward.

He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “I think Ratcliffe would get a five or a six for this season.

“It’s been very disappointing, and they know it themselves.

“Even PR-wise, it’s been a disaster for them in many areas.

“Where they need to get to is getting the front line firing and getting more cohesion throughout the whole team – even down to the defence and the goalkeeper.

“They have to get the team spirit right and find that bit of magic dust which every club is looking for.

“That’s what always signified the great Man United teams in the past, they fought for each other and worked things out in the dressing room for themselves.

“That sort of leadership and experience has got to come in, somehow.

“Ratcliffe will be hoping to bring that to the club this summer.”
