Tottenham midfielder Moussa Sissoko has admitted his surprise at his starring role this season, and says having a full pre-season has given him the confidence to perform for Mauricio Pochettino.
The France international arrived at Spurs in a big money move on transfer deadline day last season, with the £30 million paid making him Spurs’ joint record signing alongside Erik Lamela.
However the former Newcastle man disappointed last campaign as he had to settle for a bit-part role, and a move away from North London nearly materialised over the summer.
But Sissoko remained at Spurs and has transformed into a key player for Pochettino this season, playing in every Premier League game so far and bagging his first goal for the club in a 4-0 win over new boys Huddersfield.
As quoted by football.london, Sissoko said: “If I compare it to last season, then maybe yes it is a little bit of a surprise that I have played every game. But the situation is very different this year.
“When I joined Spurs on the last day of the transfer window I didn’t have a chance to have a pre-season with the club and that really does have an effect.
“I feel a lot more confident now. I’m happy with what I’m doing and so is the manager and his staff and hopefully that can be seen on the pitch.”
