Sky pundit highlights key Arsenal strength after Basel win

By Dominic Toner

Charlie Nicholas believes that Arsenal have great options in their squad this season.

Arsene Wenger made six changes to his starting line-up on Tuesday night against Basel and saw his side run out comfortable 4-1 winners.

The result means that the Gunners have topped their Champions League group ahead of Paris Saint-Germain and will hope for a kind draw in the last 16 of the competition.

Alex Iwobi and Lucas Perez were two of the players who came into the side and they certainly took their chances.

Arsenal forward Perez scored his first hat-trick for the club and Iwobi grabbed his first goal of the season.

Sky pundit Nicholas claims that the north London are well equipped this season to fight in all competitions and praised the depth of the squad.

“The players that came in also did well,” Nicholas told Sky Sports. “Lucas Perez got a hat-trick, Alex Iwobi scored, Kieran Gibbs basically got three assists and Rob Holding also played well at the back.

“The squad’s so strong. You’ve got (Theo) Walcott on the bench, you’ve got Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who has been getting the nod ahead of the likes of Iwobi, who also grabbed a goal. Now Wenger’s got a fabulous headache.”

Arsenal have now secured their place in the Champions League knockout rounds and will be hoping to reach the latter stages of the competition.

The Gunners are also currently second-placed in the Premier League and are just three points behind leaders.

They completed a convincing 5-1 away victory against West Ham at the weekend and have emerged as serious contenders for the league title.

Arsenal are now preparing to face an extremely busy December and January period, meaning that Wenger will look to exploit his squad.
