Kari Arnason and Adam Rooney could make a return to the starting line-up for Aberdeen’s trip to Rangers on Wednesday night, according to a report.
Sky Sports claims the senior duo were axed for the Dons’ win over Kilmarnock on Sunday but are potentially poised to come back into Derek McInnes’ XI with the manager expected to rotate his squad.
It is understood that the Dons have no injury concerns ahead of their trip to Ibrox, which is the first game of a double-header against the Glasgow club this week.
Experienced defender Arnason, 35, had started eight games in a row before being left out at Kilmarnock at the weekend.
Striker Rooney, 29, started in the shock 2-0 loss to Motherwell before the Killie win and was seemingly dropped from the side as McInnes rung the changes in light of the poor result.
Rangers travel to Pittodrie at the weekend and know that winning both games will see them move level with their Premiership rivals in the table.
Graeme Murty has previously confirmed that Bruno Alves is back in contention to play for the Light Blues after suffering a back injury however Lee Wallace, Graham Dorrans and Jordan Rossiter are all ruled out.
In other Rangers news, ex-Gers player Bob Malcolm has taken a vicious swipe at the club’s board.
