Sky Sports detail obstacle in West Ham’s pursuit of 70-times international
By Harvey Byrne
Joe Hart’s current wages will pose an obstacle in West Ham securing him on a permanent transfer, according to Sky Sports.
The popular sports broadcasters have detailed on their website on Monday afternoon that his earnings at cash-rich Manchester City may mean that the Hammers will have to settle for a loan move for the 30-year-old.
Hart has been a part of the Manchester City team since 2006 after joining from Shrewsbury Town.
He has since helped the club lift two Premier League titles, while also winning four Premier League Golden Glove awards.
However, last summer appointment Pep Guardiola wanted a player with better footwork between the sticks and brought in Claudio Bravo, while Hart moved out on loan to Serie A side Torino.
Bravo has since struggled to adapt to English football, causing the club to splash out a huge £35million to bring in Ederson from Benfica this summer.
This has once again left Hart’s future in doubt and while clubs like West Ham are interested, they reportedly won’t be able to match the money he is earning at City.
The Hammers are believed to be in need of a new number one this summer with both Adrian and Darren Randolph struggling in the last campaign, but they may have to settle for a loan move for the 70-time capped England international.
Football Insider verdict:
West Ham are definitely in need of a new shot-stopper this summer given the poor displays of the aforementioned two. However, Hart is also not the player he once was and is certainly not the goalkeeper that Manchester City decided to hand a mega-money contract to all those years a go. He has been tailing off for a number of years now, shown by his performances with both England and Torino in recent months. Therefore, West Ham should certainly consider signing him, but they must not break the wage bill for a player who is going to be solid at best.
