Sky Sports details major West Ham injury bomshell

West Ham attacker Michail Antonio will miss the rest of the season through injury, according to a report.

Sky Sports News claims on their official Twitter account that Antonio, 28, will miss the vital run-in of games as David Moyes and his players aim to avoid relegation to the Championship.

It is understood that the hamstring injury the key player suffered in the 3-0 win against Southampton is serious and he will miss the remaining seven matches of the campaign.

Antonio has made 21 appearances in all competitions for the Hammers this season and has suffered countless injury setbacks at the London club.

With West Ham just five points clear of the drop zone, Moyes will need all his best players fit and ready for some make-or-break clashes that are on the horizon.

Not having Antonio for those games is a devastating blow for the Hammers, who will now be weakened for games against the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester City.

Football Insider verdict

Antonio has been a mainstay of the West Ham starting line-up when he has been able to keep himself fit but this is just yet another setback that the club cannot afford to have. The Hammers are still in a relegation dog-fight despite winning 3-0 against Southampton on Saturday and Moyes needs all of his key men ready and fighting fit. Antonio’s continual injury woes is very annoying because he can be a quality player but it will also ruin the clubs’ chances of cashing in on him for a decent amount in the summer. The winger cannot be relied upon anymore and should really be moved on to whoever wants him.

In other West Ham news, the Irons are ready to make a £15million swoop for this goal machine from a fourth-placed club.
