Sky Sports journalist details major Newcastle left-sided flyer breakthrough
Newcastle United have had a major breakthrough in their January transfer window operation as Chelsea ace Kenedy is edging towards a loan move to St James’ Park, according to a reliable journalist.
Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie claimed on his personal Twitter account on Monday that the Premier League champions are closing in on signing Emerson Palmieri from Roma, meaning that it will allow the Blues to sanction Kenedy’s switch to the Magpies.

Newcastle have been widely linked with signing Kenedy ever since the summer as Rafa Benitez looked to add another left-sided flyer to his squad.
The 21-year-old Brazilian can play anywhere on the left side of the pitch from left-back to left-wing, so his versatility and experience at a top Premier League club would not doubt come in handy to Benitez.
Chelsea appear to have dragged their heels a bit though in letting the ex-Fluminense ace leave Stamford Bridge, but now with Palmieri closing in on a move to the London club, Antonio Conte is finally letting him leave for Newcastle.
Football Insider verdict
Benitez can finally feel a bit of relief in being able to land Kenedy from Chelsea as soon as Palmieri’s signing at the London club goes through, but the Spanish manager’s work is far from done. Kenedy will be a decent signing but getting in someone like him is simply papering over the cracks. This Newcastle team does not look good enough to fight to stay in the Premier League and needs strengthening everywhere. Benitez is widely reported to want a striker and a goalkeeper and he does not look anywhere near to getting either.
