Rangers are yet to make a move for Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes, according to a Sky Sports journalist.
Sky Sports News presenter Jim White claimed on TalkSport on Tuesday morning that he had been in contact with a club spokesperson from Aberdeen, who has revealed that the Light Blues have not made a move.
The Scottish Sun claimed on Monday that a move would be made within 24 hours for McInnes while on Tuesday the Daily Record reported the same thing, which means White’s update has come as quite a shock.
White, who is an avid Gers fan, has now revealed that there has been no contact between Rangers and Aberdeen over the 46-year-old.
“A spokesperson at Aberdeen tells me this morning [there have been] no enquiries from Rangers, or anyone else, regards their manager Derek McInnes,” he said on TalkSport.
Rangers have been on the hunt for a new manager for six weeks after sacking Pedro Caixinha in October.
McInnes has been the hot favourite ever since then and is a clear odds-on favourite with the bookmakers to make a return to Ibrox.
Football Insider Verdict
Rangers beat Aberdeen twice last week so maybe the board are having second thoughts about McInnes. Graeme Murty has led the Gers up to second in the Premiership table which is no doubt the requirement for whoever becomes the next manager with Celtic in a league of their own at the top. Murty could now be a prime candidate to get the job until the end of the season. He seems to be the favourite among the fanbase after turning the season around last week with two brilliant victories against McInnes’ side. The former Bristol City and St Johnstone boss looked like he may have been saying goodbye after the game on Sunday at Pittodrie and has failed to distance himself away from the Ibrox role. It seems that we are still far from a conclusion.
In other Rangers news, Celtic have suddenly become a key part in the Gers’ bid to appoint McInnes.
