Sky Sports: Pass master eyes West Ham transfer switch after PL hunt - £15m bid ready
Fulham midfielder Tom Cairney is keen on a move to West Ham but the Cottagers are not willing to let their star man leave this month, according to Sky Sports.
The broadcaster claim on their website that the 27-year-old attacking midfielder wants a move to the London Stadium, with the Hammers reportedly willing to pay £15million for his services, but that the Championship side are reluctant to see any of their top players depart Craven Cottage before Wednesday’s deadline.
A host of Premier League sides, including West Brom and Newcastle United, are said to have been interested in signing up the Scottish pass master, but that his current contract, which expires in 2021, leaves Fulham in a strong position to refrain from selling him.
He has made 18 appearances this season, scoring once and chipping in with three assists, as injury issues limited his early season game time.
Football Insider verdict
If West Ham are desperate to sign Cairney, then it looks as though they may be able to apply some pressure on their London counterparts if he really is wanting a move to the London Stadium. However, the done deal for Joao Mario may mean that another midfielder may not be a priority now, and if Fulham are so reluctant to let him leave, the Hammers might not push hard enough to make them break. Still, it will hand a blow to the likes of West Brom and Newcastle, who are both reported with registering interest in his signing, as the midfielder may well wait for Moyes to make a move. A move to the Premier League looks a near-certainty, but whether it is this month or in the summer remains to be seen.
