Sky Sports presenter Rachel Riley issues response after calling Tottenham bottlers
By Amir Mir
Sky Sports presenter Rachel Riley has stated that she doesn’t hate Tottenham after she called them bottlers after their defeat against West Ham last Friday.
The TV personality was presenting Spurs’ away clash against their London rivals, which resulted in them damaging their Premier League title hopes.
At the time, Mauricio Pochettino’s team had the opportunity to close the gap on leaders Chelsea to just one point but the defeat proved to be very costly.
After the match, she dubbed Tottenham as “bottlers” comments which didn’t go down well with the White Hart Lane faithful.
Speaking on the fantasy football club, which aired on Sky Sports 1 on Friday evening, Riley issued this response to the backlash from her comments.
“I don’t hate Spurs,” Riley told Sky Sports. “I do feel some throwaway comments I made last week may have been slightly misrepresented and over exaggerated
“I don’t hate them, half of the England team is Spurs and I like watching Spurs.”
For the second time this season, Tottenham have all but missed on winning the Premier League title, but they have bettered their position from the previous campaign.
Last term, they finished third in the table, behind their north London rivals Arsenal and surprise winners Leicester City.
That was their best position in the top tier in over two decades as many were critical of how they faltered towards the end of that season.
Defeats against Chelsea and relegated Newcastle saw them miss out on the title and finish below Arsenal on the last day of the season.
However, they have put that right this term as they will finish about Arsene Wenger’s side for the first time in 22 years.
In other Tottenham news, Damien Duff has raved about this Spurs ace and stated he is the best he has ever seen.
