Sky Sports pundit admits he had ‘Celtic-tinted specs on’ for Young Boys incident

Celtic had a goal ruled out in their Champions League game against BSC Young Boys and Marc Wilson admitted to being biased about the incident on Sky Sports.

The Bhoys were facing off against Young Boys (22 January) in the Champions League in a crucial match for Brendan Rodger’s side.

Kyogo Furuhashi managed to find the back of the net three times in the first-half, with all three efforts being ruled out by referee Rohit Saggi and the VAR.

There were also appeals for a penalty, and the referee’s decision to not give the spot-kick was the correct one, Keith Hackett told Football Insider exclusively.

Celtic did eventually win a penalty, only to see Arne Engel’s weak effort easily saved by goalkeeper Marvin Keller.

Marc Wilson spoke on Sky Sports Soccer Special reacting to Furuhashi’s second “goal” being ruled out (8.32pm) “Ahaha! I didn’t see it at the time. I must have had my Celtic-tinted specs on.

“But McGregor does catch the calf of the Young Boys defender there. I would imagine that this is going to be ruled out, the referee taking a long, hard look at it.

“And unfortunately it looks like no goal. No goal, still 0-0.”

Celtic survive Young Boys to guarantee Champions League knockout place

Football Insider Verdict

The Bhoys were in imperious form in the first half of their match against the Swiss side but couldn’t make it pay for so long.

However, after having three goals disallowed (correctly), and missing a penalty, the second-half was a much more tense affair.

Young Boys adjusted their high-line that Celtic had continuously exploited, and looked a much better side for it.

The Glaswegian side, on the other hand, began to look nervy and tense after being unable to find a way to legally score.

It took an Adam Idah attempt that was saved by Keller, and then bounced off centre-back Loris Benito, for the Scottish side to finally find a breakthrough in the 86th minute.

If Celtic are to have any hope of beating some of the stronger sides they will face in the knockouts they will have to be more composed in front of goal, and learn to stay onside.

Daizen Maeda was also sent off for kicking-out at Mohammed Aly Camara in the 89th minute in a moment of insanity.
