Sky Sports pundit: Liverpool should sign 25-year-old PL ace and address problem area

Tony Cottee believes Liverpool should sign Southampton’s Virgil van Dijk as well as a new goalkeeper.
Dutch publication De Telegraaf claimed last month that Liverpool were preparing a huge offer to sign the 25-year-old defender, but they have yet to show their hand if they are preparing a bid for the Holland international.
Speaking to Sky Sports’ Premier League Daily Show on Tuesday morning, Cottee called on Klopp to sign van Dijk and a shot-stopper to boost their title chase.
“Mignolet will play until the end of the season,” Cottee said. “But he needs to improve the goalkeeping situation. He will be looking to strengthen. That’s been a problem all season.
“They also need a centre-back, if they can sign Virgil van Dijk, a player of that quality will hugely improve their chances. He’s not got the balance right yet, but he will be a top signing.”

The former Celtic stopper has been in superb form at the back for Claude Puel’s Saints, keeping 10 clean sheets in his 27 league and cup outings this season.
Manager Jurgen Klopp has plenty of options available to him at centre-back, after Joe Gomez returned from a long-term knee injury. Dejan Lovren, Joel Matip, Ragnar Klavan and Lucas Leiva can also play at the heart of the defence.
A move for van Dijk would be Liverpool’s fifth signing from the south coast in recent years, after Adam Lallana, Nathaniel Clyne, Sadio Mane and Dejan Lovren.
The Reds could also sign a goalkeeper in the near future, with question marks repeatedly raised over the performances of Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius.
