Sky Sports pundit: English clubs will be eyeing this Celtic 25-year-old

By Derek Smithson

Charlie Nicholas believes that English clubs will be looking at Celtic midfielder Stuart Armstrong.

The 25-year-old was in sensational form last season for the Bhoys and helped them record an unbeaten domestic treble.

He has been transformed by Brendan Rodgers from a left winger to a central midfielder, something that helped him become an ever-present in the starting line-up.

Armstrong is likely to be involved on Saturday for Scotland as they host England in a crucial World Cup qualifying match.

Sky Sports pundit Nicholas feels that teams from England will be looking at the Celtic ace and feel he could come under the spotlight even more if he performers for Scotland at the weekend.

“The Celtic players are obviously on a high after what they achieved and the one I’m pinning my hopes on is Stuart Armstrong [against England],” Nicholas told Sky Sports. “He’s not signed a new contract and I imagine teams of significance in England will be interested, especially if he performs on Saturday.

Armstrong has just one year remaining on his existing deal with the Scottish champions and fans will be hoping he commits his future to them.

The attacking midfielder made 47 appearances across all competitions last season and racked up experience in the Champions League.

He scored a remarkable 17 goals and supplied seven assists in return, which helped him earn a nomination for the PFA Player of the Year in the Scottish league.

In other Celtic transfer news, they are in a three-way battle to sign a Premier League defender.
