Sky Sports pundit Babb grades Tottenham display v Burnley

By Will Butcher

Phil Babb was not impressed with Tottenham’s narrow win over Premier League new boys Burnley on the weekend.

Spurs edged past Sean Dyche’s side with a 2-1 win thanks to goals from Dele Alli and Danny Rose either side of an Ashley Barnes equaliser.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Babb rated Mauricio Pochettino side’s display with a B+ as they squeezed past the Clarets to secure their ninth Premier League win of the season.

“At home Spurs should really be blowing Burnley away,” Babb said. “It didn’t quite happen for them, but in the end they got over the line.

“They weren’t brilliant but they’ve only had two league defeats all season so it’s still going well for them.”

Pochettino watched nervously from the dugout as Spurs failed to keep hold of their 11th clean sheet of the season, but still managed to gain all three points.

The win leaves Tottenham in fifth place and just one point away from north London rivals Arsenal, who failed to hold onto a slender lead during the 2-1 loss to Manchester City on Sunday.

Spurs seemed to have ended their mid-season blip of form with four wins in five games, after going through 10 games with just one win against West Ham beforehand.

Pochettino and the rest of his squad next go up against Southampton at St. Mary’s Stadium, as they look to keep the pressure on the Gunners in what will be a tough test away from home.

A win could see them leapfrog the Gunners into fourth if Arsenal fail to secure a win against West Brom on Boxing Day.

In other Tottenham news, this is why Spurs must outbid their rivals to sign this midfielder.
