Sky Sports pundit: This reported Liverpool target would be a great acquisition for anyone

Sky Sports pundit Stuart Pearce believes that Arsenal winger Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain would be a great signing for anyone.

The Guardian reported on Thursday morning that Liverpool were keeping “close tabs” on the 23-year-old, who will be valued between £20million and £25million.

He has played 23 times for the Gunners this season, scoring six goals while also providing six.

However, given Arsenal’s strength in depth in the attack the north London club are reluctant to extend his contract beyond 2018, leaving his future in doubt.

Former England Under-21 manager Pearce believes that Chamberlain should stay in London, but stated if anyone can sign him, he would be a great addition.

“I personally don’t think he needs a move,” told Pearce to Sky Sports News, as quoted by Goal. “He needs to stay at Arsenal and get a run of consistent games in the team.

“If anyone can get him out of Arsenal, he will be a great acquisition. There is talk of Liverpool, and if it is Liverpool then I think he has got the energy levels and the ability to be a major asset to anybody when playing regularly.”

Chamberlain has been at Arsenal for five years now after joining in 2011 from Southampton for a £15million fee.

He was considered one of England’s brightest prospects on the right-wing on the south coast, but Arsene Wenger has looked to use him across the front three without nailing him down to one position.

He has played 172 matches for the Gunners in total, but a move to Anfield may now look enticing for him, especially with Liverpool currently flying in the league under manager Jurgen Klopp.
