Sky Sports pundit David Prutton has predicted a 2-2 draw when Aston Villa head to the KCOM stadium to face Hull City in the Championship on Saturday.
Writing in his column for Sky Sports, the former Leeds United and Nottingham Forest midfielder boldly claimed that promotion via the top two was now out of reach for the Birmingham club on an afternoon where he was sure Bournemouth loanee Lewis Grabban would score first.
Prutton stated: “Aston Villa, meanwhile, suffered two desperate defeats in a row and it’s starting to look like automatic promotion may be beyond them. Score draw for me.”
A 4-1 victory against Wolves at the start of March has long since been forgotten off the back of a shock defeat at home to QPR, which was followed up by a 1-0 loss at Bolton last time out to see Steve Bruce’s side drop down to fourth in the Championship.
Football Insider verdict:
With seven points now separating the Claret and Blues from Cardiff in second, who also have a game in hand, it would be hard to put up a case for Villa now to make automatic promotion. It would also be difficult to put up a case for them making any kind of headway in the play offs, given the form other sides like Fulham and Middlesbrough are showing going into the final games of the season. It is imperative that Bruce’s men pick up their performances imminently or face having to wait another year until they can try make a return to the Premier League.
