Sky Sports pundit predicts Leeds v Sutton, gives verdict on impact of 3G pitch

By Dominic Toner

Paul Merson believes that Leeds will fall to a shock 1-1 draw against Sutton on Sunday.

The Whites travel to the National League side for an FA Cup fourth-round tie and Merson has backed the underdogs to get a result.

Sutton play their home games on a 3G pitch and the Leeds players will have to adjust to an unfamiliar match surface.

Sky Sports pundit Merson has tipped a 1-1 scoreline in the cup tie and expects manager Garry Monk to make several changes to his side.

“This tie embodies the FA Cup. Sutton play on a 3G pitch so that makes things even more interesting,” Merson wrote on the Sky Sports’ website. “Leeds rested a lot of players in round three at Cambridge and with Newcastle potentially catchable, they could rest again.

“I fancy sutton to hold Leeds to a replay and book a trip to Elland Road.”

The Yorkshire club are enjoying a great season under Monk and are flying high third in the Championship table.

They have won eight of their last nine games across all competitions and will be hoping for a strong cup run to match their league aspirations.

Monk fielded some of his fringe players in the third-round victory over Cambridge and they scraped through as 2-1 victors.

He is likely to take the same approach on Sunday, but will be wary of Sutton after they pulled off an upset against AFC Wimbledon in the last round.
