Sky Sports pundit predicts Liverpool v Southampton, highlights form player

By Dominic Toner

Charlie Nicholas has predicted that Liverpool will overcome Southampton in their clash on Wednesday night and highlighted the quality of Adam Lallana.

The Merseyside club travel to Southampton for the first leg of their EFL Cup semi-final and will be looking for a positive result to take back to Anfield.

Jurgen Klopp made 10 changes to his side on Sunday as they slumped to a 0-0 draw against League Two opposition in the FA Cup and he is likely to recall his senior players for the semi-finals.

Sky Sports pundit Nicholas feels that Liverpool will get back to winning ways against Southampton and feels that in-form midfielder Lallana can make the difference.

“Jurgen Klopp seems to be getting twitchy and made too many changes in the FA Cup for me, but I do expect them to win here and, with the form he’s in, I fancy Adam Lallana to come back and haunt Southampton,” Nicholas said, as quoted by Sky Sports.

Nicholas has tipped a 2-1 scoreline in Liverpool’s favour and backed Lallana to be the first goalscorer.

Klopp is still looking for his first piece of silverware since he joined the club and lost in the EFL Cup final to Manchester City last season.

They have come through some difficult matches this campaign on their road to the semi-finals, beating Burton, Derby, Tottenham and Leeds.

Liverpool have also been in good form in the league and are currently second in the table, with Lallana being a crucial player in their success.

Lallana is enjoying his best season with the club and has been an ever-present in Klopp’s side.

The 28-year-old has thrived on playing in the central midfield position and is no longer being forced to slot into a wide role.

The England international has made 20 appearances this season across all competitions, scoring seven goals and supplying seven assists.

He will be returning to his former club Southampton on Wednesday and will be keen to deliver a good performance.

In other Liverpool news, Neil Mellor has called for a change of formation against Southampton.
