Former Leeds United star and current Sky Sports pundit David Prutton has been left raving over Aston Villa ahead of their midweek clash against QPR.
The Villans play host to the London based side off the back of a mighty impressive 4-1 victory over table toppers and midlands rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers, which closed the gap between the top three and strengthened Steve Bruce’s side’s hopes of a chance of promotion back to the Premier League.
Rangers meanwhile secured a 1-0 win over basement club Sunderland to leave them in a solid mid-table position, but Prutton insists he cannot see them picking up a surprise win over Villa on Tuesday.
Predicting a 2-0 win for Bruce’s men, he wrote in his column on Sky Sports’ website: “What a victory that was for Aston Villa on Saturday.
“They were superb against Wolves and it was a big statement from them in their continued pursuit of automatic promotion.
“QPR did well to battle past Sunderland at the weekend but a trip to Villa Park while the home side are in this kind of form is a daunting proposition. I can’t see past a Villa win.”
The reverse fixture finished 2-1 to Villa at Loftus Road, with Albert Adomah netting a double as the visitors came from behind to seal the three points.
Football Insider verdict
While QPR have been floating around in mid-table obscurity, Villa have been going from strength to strength, and it would be a huge shock if Rangers came away with anything from Villa Park. Bruce and his men know they have what it takes to beat any side in the league after their convincing victory over Wolves, and only complacency will stop them from picking up a result on Tuesday. Can they push for automatic promotion? Cardiff sit four points ahead in second so the home tie against the Bluebirds next month could well be the deciding factor.
