Sky Sports pundit Andy Hinchliffe believes Tottenham star Dele Alli is an ‘extraordinary’ player for his understanding of space.
Alli, 21, has set the Premier League alight this season with a series of top class displays, drawing endless praise from pundits, players and the media.
The England international has contributed an incredible 19 goals and 10 assists 42 appearances in all competitions, and an awestruck Hinchcliffe sung the midfielder’s praises on Sky Sports on Tuesday morning.
Speaking live on the Premier League Daily Show, Hinchcliffe admitted that Alli’s ability to find space makes him such an extraordinary player, and compared him to England icon Paul Gascoigne.
He said: “What a player. I have to say he’s probably the most influential British or English midfielder since Paul Gascoigne. He was a great team player, but he also had that ability in a flash of brilliance to change the course of a game.
“I have never seen a young player with such a degree of understanding of space, of finding space and being in the right place at the right time.
“He doesn’t get attracted to the ball to make things happen, he actually gets away from the ball and ends up in between defenders. For a young player to now that is the right thing to do is extraordinary.”
He is on a particularly hot run of goalscoring form in the Premier League, scoring in five of his last six appearances.
Alli’s meteoric rise into one of the Premier League’s elite has seen him linked with a big-money move to European giants Real Madrid, where he would be following in the footsteps of ex-Tottenham star Gareth Bale.
But Tottenham will be determined to keep their star man on board for the next couple of seasons, with the midfielder under contract at the club until 2022.
In other Tottenham news, Bale has delivered his verdict on Alli and revealed where he could end up.
