Sky Sports pundit Charlie Nicholas believes that Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino must consider a tactical switch at the back for the upcoming Champions League match.

The North London club travel to Germany to face Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday evening.

Spurs will be looking to secure first place in the group stage having already qualified for the knockout stages of the competition following their 3-1 victory over current holders Real Madrid at Wembley Stadium at the start of the month.

Tottenham enjoyed an impressive 3-1 victory over the German outfit in the reverse fixture with Harry Kane bagging himself a brace and teammate Son Heung-Min getting on the scoresheet.

Expressing his opinion on the Sky Sports website, Nicholas feels Spurs need to make changes at the back, singling out England international Eric Dier.

“At the weekend people were saying that Spurs will want to go and get a result here, but I’m not sure that’s the case,” he wrote.

“The group is already settled as they just need to beat Apoel at home.

“So if I’m Mauricio Pochettino, with Harry Kane looking 75 per cent fit and Christian Eriksen surely tired, I’d be more concerned about getting the squad right rather than trying to force a response out of the team.

“He needs to make decisions at the back because for me Eric Dier isn’t a centre-back as he gives the ball away too much.”

The Sky Sports pundit has also predicted that Spurs will suffer a 2-1 defeat in midweek.

Dier has been deployed as a defender for the last three Premier League matches but Spurs have only managed to achieve one clean sheet in the process, losing to rivals Manchester United and Arsenal.

The Englishman has been a regular in the Spurs first-team this season, featuring in 18 matches in all competitions and providing one assist.
