Slater ‘wants to leave’ Sheffield United as Hull City ‘hard to turn down’ – Kenny

Paddy Kenny claims Sheffield United will struggle to keep hold of Regan Slater if he is offered a way out of the club this month.

The former Blades stopper, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insists the midfielder wants to leave the club.

On 29 December, The Hull Daily Mail reported Preston are rivalling Hull for the signing of Slater, 22, with Rotherham United also keen.

Slater has made three senior appearances for the Blades but may have expected more game time this season after impressing on loan at Hull last season.

He has also had successful spells at Scunthorpe and Carlisle but has been unable to work his way into the first-team frame at Bramall Lane.

As a result, Kenny expects Slater to leave if a suitable bid comes in this month.

“Well, if Preston and Hull are in, It wouldn’t surprise me if he wants to go,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“He’s had a few good loan spells now but he’s only played one league game for Sheffield United.

“When you are 22 years old there comes a point where you want to be part of the first team after getting all of this experience.

“If he continues to not be involved then I think it would make sense to move on and join a club where he can play week in week out.

“If that is offered to him it will be hard to turn down, it will also be hard for us to convince him to stay.

“I just don’t see him getting regular football any time soon.
