Bilic: This West Ham player will make Koscielny and Mustafi uncomfortable

By Emma Sanders

Slaven Bilic says Andy Carroll will be in the West Ham squad to face Arsenal in the Premier League on Saturday -and is ready to cause problems to centre-back duo Laurent Koscielny and Shkodran Mustafi.

It will be the first time since August that Carroll has featured for West Ham after picking up a knee injury against Astra Giurgiu but he is in contention to start after a three and a half month absence.

The 27-year-old scored nine goals in 27 league appearances for the club last season and the Hammers will be heavily boosted by his return given their poor form this season.

West Ham currently sit in 16th place in the league table, just one point off the relegation zone but Bilic is hoping Carroll’s return will help his side defeat Arsenal.

“He will be in the squad, so he is ready,” said Bilic, as quoted by TalkSPORT.

“He’s a player that offers something special, he is one of the reasons why we were so prolific last season in front of goal, why we were so versatile, so dangerous, why we scored so many goals and why we finished so high.

“No centre-back feels comfortable when he’s close to the goal and the ball’s in the air.”

Koscielny and Mustafi are Arsenal’s regular centre-back pair and have developed an impressive understanding in recent month.

However, Carroll was a huge threat in the fixture between the two sides last season at Upton Park when he scored a hat-trick during a thrilling 3-3 draw.

The 6″4 striker’s return will come as great news for the club after they suffered a blow following their 1-1 draw against Manchester United last weekend when Diafra Sakho was ruled out for up to six weeks.

The Gunners sit in fourth place and are 16 points ahead of West Ham in the table so Bilic’s side are expecting a tough test as they could also be without Aaron Cresswell and Michail Antonio.
