Smith could lose Aston Villa stars if he follows Tottenham example - Agbonlahor
Aston Villa will not follow Tottenham’s example and fine Emiliano Buendia and Emiliano Martinez for joining up with the Argentina squad during the international break.
That is the view of Villa’s record Premier League goalscorer Gabby Agbonlahor, speaking exclusively to Football Insider the duo, along with Spurs’ Cristian Romero and Giovani Lo Celso train in green-list Croatia.
Sky Sports reported on September 7 the Tottenham stars are set for a hefty fine for going against the club’s wishes and travelling to South America.
The presence of the four players meant a World Cup qualifier between Argentina and Brazil was abandoned just minutes into the game as they had not completed a quarantine period.
Martinez and Buendia had the permission of their club as they agreed to not feature in Thursday’s game against Bolivia.
They will miss this weekend’s game against Chelsea.

Football Insider revealed on September 8 Aston Villa owners Wes Edens and Naseef Sawiris have been left furious by the situation and questioned why Chrsitian Purslow did not do more to prevent it.
“Dean Smith will just want to see the end of it now, to be honest,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.
“These are two top players, if you start fining two of your top players for going away with the national team you start losing them.
“They’ll just want to get it out the way. Get them back for the Everton game and move on. He won’t want it to continue and he’ll just draw a line under it.
“For Spurs, it’s different because they went against the club.
“It’s one of them where, the club pay your wages so you can understand that situation, definitely.”
