Gabby Agbonlahor has called on Dean Smith to hand Keinan Davis his first Premier League start of the season for Aston Villa against Liverpool.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Villa captain labelled Davis a “menace” who will be an unknown quantity to the shaky Liverpool defence.
The 23-year-old changed the game for the Midlands giants last weekend when he helped inspire their comeback against Fulham.
He grabbed his first Premier League assist for Villa’s second goal as they ran out 3-1 winners.
“He’s a great option to have to come off the bench,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.
“Dean Smith will just be hoping whenever he gets on the pitch he can make a similar impact, not just here and there, he’ll want him to do it every time he gets on the pitch.
“He was the Keinan Davis that broke onto the scene under Steve Bruce. He was strong, running at defenders.
“It might be something they might try. But maybe it’s more of an option when they go a goal down and it’s an option to bring on.
“It just shows Villa needed a goal and they turned to Keinan Davis which is definitely a good thing.
“He needs to be playing football. He’s a menace.
“I would start him against Liverpool because Liverpool’s two centre-halves have played on Tuesday and they’re not the greatest of centre-halves.
“It will be a great option to throw in against them. They won’t know anything about him. He can outpace and out strength them. It’s something Dean Smith can keep doing.”
