‘So disrespectful’ – Celtic fans amazed by ‘baffling’ Kyogo Furuhashi news

Celtic fans are baffled that Kyogo Furuhashi was not called up to the Japan squad for the upcoming Asian Cup this month.

The Hoops forward has been relatively inconsistent this season and has been a source of frustration for the Parkhead faithful, but he has still managed to notch 10 goals and three assists for Brendan Rodgers’ side this season.

He bagged the opening goal in Celtic’s Old Firm win against Rangers on Saturday (30 December) with a sensational long-range strike, but he has been deemed surplus to requirements by Japan head coach Hajime Moriyasu.

Fans admitted they are selfishly happy that the 28-year-old will remain in Glasgow during the tournament as they bid to extend their league at the top of the league table.

Nethertheless, they do not understand how he has not been selected while his countrymen Daizen Maeda and Reo Hatate have been included in the 26-man squad.

Celtic could also be set to lose South Koreans Oh Hyeon-gyu and Yang Hyun-Jun for the competition which commences on 14 January.

Rodgers would be delighted to have Furuhashi at his disposal during the month-long Asian Cup as Celtic are relatively thin for attacking options – especially with the swathe of departures heading to Qatar.

But fans have sympathy for Kyogo after his surprising sub and have taken to social media to react to his “disrespectful” omission.
