‘So tragic’ – Celtic fans erupt at Paul Tisdale over ’embarrassing’ January transfer news

Wilfried Nancy’s side were dealt yet another damning defeat before the January transfer window swings open at Celtic Park.

Celtic lost 2-0 to Motherwell on Tuesday, 30 December, condemning the new manager to his fifth defeat since arriving in Scotland, seeing him record a win rate of 29 per cent.

Nancy is already at risk of being sacked, especially with Rangers up next in a crunch Scottish Premiership clash, and the January transfer window could be a saving grace for the Frenchman.

Football Insider understands that Union Berlin’s Andrej Ilic is already on Celtic’s radar, and it appears that the front line is not the only aspect of the squad that needs addressing next month.

According to Sky Sports’ Anthony Joseph (31 December), the Hoops have made an approach for Bournemouth right-back Julian Araujo, wanting the player on loan until the end of the season.

Celtic supporters in disbelief over Julian Araujo news

There is one major hurdle to overcome already, though, with the Cherries needing to recall one of the other loans before Araujo can leave due to their international spots already being full.

One supporter labelled the transfer link “beyond embarrassing,” while another simply responded, “What a guy [Paul] Tisdale is”. It is safe to say that fans are unimpressed.

A third supporter fumed at the “tragic mess” emerging at Celtic Park, which a fourth calling Tisdale, the club’s Head of Football Operations, a “cabbage”.

What should Celtic fans know about Bournemouth’s right-back?

Araujo arrived from Las Palmas with a lot of expectation in 2024, but just 14 appearances later, and the 24-year-old has failed to stamp his mark at the Vitality Stadium.

The Mexico international has been benched by Andoni Iraola for the last six matches, and in his last appearance, he was shown a red card as the Cherries were knocked out of the Carabao Cup.

His spells at LA Galaxy and Las Palmas were far more successful, going to the last on loan from Barcelona, but he never managed to make his first-team debut for the La Liga giants.

It has been quite a disappointing move to the Premier League, and a move to Scotland could revive his career, but it seems like quite a risk for Celtic, given the situation they’re in.

While the Hoops are just three points behind Hearts in the race for the Scottish Premiership title, that could quickly change again if Nancy’s tactics don’t pay off in the upcoming games.
