'So what if Norwich lose every game 12-0' - Exclusive: Danny Mills reacts to latest Leeds dig

Danny Mills claimed “it is pointless” restarting the season without consequence after Stuart Webber insisted Leeds United must complete their fixtures if they are to gain promotion.

The former Manchester City and Leeds full-back, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, suggested football without “jeopardy” is not even sport and would not interest fans.

Norwich City sporting director Stuart Webber has now claimed promotion should not be handed to Championship sides unless their remaining fixtures are completed.

Webber told Sky Sports his club “would not accept” relegation and Leeds’ promotion if the Premier League completed their fixtures and the Championship did not.

However, the Premier League and EFL are two independent governing bodies and it remains a distinct possibility that one could complete their remaining fixtures whilst the other does not.

When asked by Football Insider if relegation and promotion should be scrapped if both leagues are not completed, Mills said: “It is pointless. There is no point in playing games if there is no relegation and no promotion.

“You are only playing for money.

“If there is no relegation, no jeopardy, what is the point. People do not want to watch friendlies. If there is no relegation it is irrelevant.

“So what if Norwich lose every game 12-0 until the end of the season – who cares if they are not getting relegated. That is not sport.”

EFL chairman Rick Parry, speaking on promotion to members of the Digital, Culture, Media and Sport committee, said: “If it doesn’t happen, you can expect the lawyers to get wealthy.”

The Premier League is pushing ahead with ‘Project Restart’ after all 20 clubs in the division agreed to complete their fixtures in their home stadiums given police approval.
