Frank McAvennie has urged David Moyes to start at least one “flair player” for West Ham when they travel to Arsenal tonight.
The former Irons and Celtic striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, even suggested Moyes name an unchanged side from the team that comfortably beat Charlton on Tuesday night.
Felipe Anderson and Manuel Lanzini impressed against the Addicks, while Sebastien Haller scored twice in a 3-0 win at the London Stadium.
Anderson and Lanzini are two of the Hammers most creative players with 33 goals and 31 assists between them for the club.
The Hammers were widely criticised last weekend when they lost 2-0 at home to a new-look Newcastle United and Moyes himself admitted that his side were “miles off”.
When asked by Football Insider if he expects many changes from the team that lost ladt Saturday, McAvennie said:
“I watched the game at the weekend and I will be honest with you that was the worst I have seen from West Ham in a long, long time. It was a really bad performance. It was lacklustre. There was just no fight.
“David Moyes played all of the flair players on Tuesday night. Lanzini played really well and Anderson got his goal and you need one of these boys in your team.
“At the weekend there was nobody that could thread the ball through the eye of a needle and see a pass. Nobody was doing that. It was just so wrong.
“It was great to watch Anderson, Lanzini and Snodgrass. Maybe David Moyes should just start that team on Saturday, at least we would see something going forward. It worked against Charlton.”
