Arsenal fans have expressed their delight after a new update on the future of highly-rated youngster Max Dowman at their club.
Max Dowman’s breakthrough into Arsenal’s first-team has been a huge positive for Mikel Arteta in recent times, with the 15-year-old stepping up to train with his side throughout pre-season.
He featured in four of their friendly games prior to the start of the new campaign, with a particularly impressive display against Newcastle as Arsenal fans hailed Dowman as the new Lamine Yamal.
Former Everton CEO Keith Wyness has told Football Insider that Dowman’s talent is similar to that of a young Wayne Rooney, who he saw break through on Merseyside, and Arteta also clearly rates him highly.
Dowman also won a penalty against Leeds in August, with three appearances made in all competitions so far this term, and a new update has now emerged around his long-term future in North London.
Arsenal fans react as Dowman reaches scholarship contract agreement
The Athletic’s David Ornstein (23 October) has reported that Arsenal have reached an agreement with Dowman to sign scholarship terms, with a professional deal expected to follow when he turns 17-years-old in December next year.
His report states that the 15-year-old could have moved anywhere and been on more money at other clubs, but only wanted to stay with the Gunners, and his scholarship terms are now in process of being finalised.
Arsenal fans are understandably ecstatic at the news that Dowman will be staying at their club for the foreseeable future, with one fan taking to X to say: “Max Dowman could have moved ANYWHERE. Numerous clubs offered more money. But he only wanted the Arsenal. Something special is happening at this football club,” while another said: “He’s a legend in my book already. Proper lad.”
Another supporter wrote on X about how much his decision means to the club, saying: “Not unexpected by any means but always a small chance of a curve ball until it’s done, Quite possibly the most in demand youth player from these isles in the modern era.“
While one Arsenal fan insisted that he can become a better player than a certain all-time great, adding: “Already ahead of Messi & going to surpass his legacy.“
Mikel Arteta has praised Dowman as an ‘incredible’ talent
Dowman had been linked to Real Madrid in recent weeks after their scouts watched him shine on England Under-19 duty, but this latest revelation shows that he will not be going anywhere anytime soon.
Arsenal already have a great team in the present, and the fact that Arteta has already trusted the teenager to make an impact so early in his career while they chase a league title shows how highly-rated he is in North London.
The Spanish boss spoke of his admiration for Dowman’s talents after his impressive cameo against Leeds, saying: “It is great to be able to change the energy in the stadium by bringing him in and he had an impact. He won a penalty on his debut at the Emirates. That’s incredible.
“We have to gather all the information. It’s how he reacts and deals with the situation, what his team-mates think about him – which is clear, because they kept on passing him the ball.”
It is also clear that Dowman has a very bright future, and his potential to become a top player for both club and country will be seen at Arsenal for at least the next three years, which is a huge boost to the Gunners’ chances of success in the seasons to come.
