Source: Chances of Man United signing top midfield target in January revealed
Man United are assessing a number of big-name midfielders as they aim to strengthen Ruben Amorim’s side during the January transfer window.
Football Insider revealed last month that Man United are desperate to sign a new midfielder when the window opens, with a number of options on their radar.
However, as I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the Red Devils are unlikely to be able to land their top targets in the mid-season window and instead could be made to wait until the summer to make a move.
This comes as the likes of Adam Wharton, Elliot Anderson and Carlos Baleba are on Amorim’s shortlist, but could be priced out of moves away.
Football Insider revealed that Palace are demanding £100million to sell Wharton, while both Anderson and Baleba will be priced similarly.

Man United look set to miss out on midfield targets
Football Insider revealed on 16 August that Baleba’s price tag could exceed £100million next summer with Brighton reluctant to let him leave.
With most of United’s primary midfield targets likely to cost nine-figure fees, it has thrown their mid-season plans into doubt, with a January move now unlikely.
Speaking on the Inside Track podcast, I explained: “Yeah, look, there’s a long list of midfielders that Manchester United are being linked with right now.
“We know the centre of midfield is a primary position for Ruben Amorim.
“But they’ll probably have to wait until next summer, it seems unlikely that they will be able to bring in those top midfield targets in the January window.

“Being proven in the Premier League is a key thing for Man United right now, they want players to come in and hit the ground running like Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha have.
“The problem with that is, most Premier League sides aren’t going to be willing to let players go in January unless it’s for an inflated transfer fee.”
Elliot Anderson emerges as Man United’s top targets
Football Insider on 14 October that Anderson is Man United’s top target to strengthen in midfield as they continue to keep tabs on his progress.
The Nottingham Forest star has shone both in the Premier League and on international duty with England, leading to plenty of speculation about his future.
Meanwhile, Liverpool are also interested in Anderson and could be prepared to rival United in their ambitions of luring him away from Nottingham Forest.

However, Football Insider revealed on 24 October that Nottingham Forest have no plans to lose Anderson and Sean Dyche wants to keep him at the club long-term.
That looks set to deter the Red Devils’ interest in January, with a view to a potential move in the summer, with Amorim forced to wait before he can strengthen.
