Sources: Aberdeen set to sell Duk Lopes for ‘big’ profit
Aberdeen are set to sell Luis ‘Duk’ Lopes for a “big” profit this summer, sources have told Football Insider.
The Dons are ready to sell their star forward at the end of the season even though his contract runs until 2025.
Former boss Jim Goodwin revealed that his former club signed the 23-year-old for free from Benfica last summer when he put pen to paper on a three-year deal with the club.
Although Duk arrived for nothing in July, former club Benfica are due 50 per cent of any future sale.
But the striker is still proving himself to be the bargain of the season, netting 18 goals in 38 appearances, as well as providing six assists in those outings.
The Cape Verde international has been an important part of helping Aberdeen race up to third in the Scottish Premiership.
Barry Robson’s side have won their last six successive games in the top flight and are five points clear of fourth placed Hearts heading into the final game before the split.
But it hasn’t always been smooth sailing for the north east side.
Before Robson took over from Goodwin, Aberdeen had been on a horrific league run, losing 5-0 to Hearts and then 6-0 to Hibernian in successive league games.
The dismal run also included a 1-0 defeat to sixth tier side Darvel in the Scottish Cup and Goodwin was eventually relieved of his duties following their league defeat to Hibs.
Robson and his side have managed to turn their fortunes around and are looking at the prospect of European football next season if they can maintain their composure for the remaining six games.
