Sources: Adam Forshaw set for unexpected offer after Leeds United U-turn
Leeds United are considering handing midfielder Adam Forshaw a new contract, sources have told Football Insider.
The 31-year-old is currently set to depart the Elland Road club at the end of June when his existing deal expires – although they hold the option to extend his stay a further 12 months.
But it is believed that Forshaw’s impressive performances towards the end of the 2022-23 campaign mean club chiefs are coming around to the idea of handing him a renewal.
The former Middlesbrough man would have been released if Leeds United stayed in the Premier League.
But the Whites were consigned to relegation on the final day of the 2022-23 campaign and Forshaw’s extensive Championship experience could now prove vital in ensuring an immediate return to the top flight.
The Liverpool-born ace turned out 13 times across all competitions as Leeds dropped to the Championship, with a recurring hip injury once again hampering his involvement.
Forshaw’s last contract extension came in January 2022, with the midfielder seeing his deal prolonged until June 2023 – with an option for a further 12 months.
He was rewarded by the Yorkshire side for his form last year (2022) after returning well from almost two years out with a hip injury.
According to FBRef, Forshaw earns £20,000-a-week on his contract with the Whites.

Leeds United are kickstarting their summer recruitment drive as they look to seal an immediate return to the Premier League in the 2023-24 campaign.
Football Insider revealed on Friday (2 June) that the Whites will look to add new faces at left-back, central midfield and in attack in the off-season.
