Sources: Adam Montgomery ‘increasingly likely’ to leave Celtic after devastating blow

Adam Montgomery is set to leave Celtic at the end of the season and has likely played his last match for the club, sources have told Football Insider.

The 21-year-old’s deal at the Glasgow giants is set to expire in June and he is yet to agree to an extension despite holding contract talks with the club.

Well-placed sources have told Football Insider that is it looking “increasingly likely” that the Hoops will let him leave the club for free after a devastating injury blow.

Montgomery was sent out on loan to Motherwell last month for the remainder of the season, but the club confirmed that he has returned to Glasgow after picking up a long-term injury in training.

He made one appearance for the Steelmen, bagging an assist in their 3-1 win against Alloa Athletic in the Scottish Cup on 20 January.

The Scotsman spent the first half of the season with English League One side Fleetwood Town but managed just six appearances in all competitions.

Now, the left-back’s time at Brendan Rodgers’ side looks to be over.

He joined Celtic’s academy in 2009 and has made 20 senior appearances, notching one assist.

Montgomery has been sent out on numerous loan spells during his time at Parkhead, including a season-long spell at St Johnstone in 2022-23.
