Sources: Arsenal now turn attention to different profile of forward as Ivan Toney news emerges

A new striker is the January priority for Arsenal following their recent dip in form, sources have told Football Insider.

Gunners boss Mikel Arteta has set his sights on attacking reinforcements after picking up just four points from a possible 15 in their last five Premier League games.

It is believed the Spaniard is keen to bring in a forward with a different profile to current stars Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah.

A well-placed source has told Football Insider that Arsenal want more of a “physical presence” in their ranks going forward.

As such, the north London side have been heavily linked with swoops for Brentford star Ivan Toney, Napoli hitman Victor Osimhen and Bayer Leverkusen talisman Victor Boniface.

However, it is believed all three players are unrealistic targets for the mid-season window.

Toney is set to return from his gambling rule breach ban later this month and Brentford are unwilling to lose the striker with Bryan Mbeumo out injured.

Meanwhile, Osimhen has recently signed a new contract with Napoli keeping him with the Serie A champions until June 2026.

Boniface has spearheaded the attack for Xabi Alonso’s table-topping Leverkusen side and they are therefore not open to letting him leave this month.

Jesus and Nketiah have shared the attacking responsibilities for Arsenal this season but have not been on top form.

The two forwards have scored just 13 combined goals in 47 total appearances in the 2023-24 campaign so far.
