Sources: Arsenal now want to sign star to replace Ben White

Arsenal have registered interest in signing Ajax defender Devyne Rensch this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

The Gunners are in the market for a new right-back and are excited by the potential of the 20-year-old Dutch international.

White has impressed on the right for Arsenal this season, contributing to seven goals in 33 Premier League starts across 35 Premier League appearances, but Football Insider sources revealed on Sunday (7 May) that Mikel Arteta plans to hand White a central role next season.

The Arsenal boss has been impressed by White’s versatility, but he is eager to add more depth to his backline by strengthening his right flank.

Real Valladolid youngster Ivan Fresneda was a top target to fill that position for Arsenal, but this site’s sources understand that Borussia Dortmund are in advanced talks with the 18-year-old over a £20million move.

Arsenal are not prepared to pull out of the race for Fresneda, but they have highlighted Rensch as another ideal right-back target if they do miss out on the Spaniard.

Rensch has made 33 appearances across all competitions for the Amsterdam side, scoring three goals and providing one assist in the process.

Rensch made his return to the side on Saturday (6 May) after missing five games with a thigh injury – Ajax struggled without the young defender, winning only two of their league matches during his absence.

It is understood that Brighton are also keeping tabs on Rensch and could look to strike a deal with Ajax this summer.
