Sources: Arsenal put Alex Runarsson up for sale after offer green light
Arsenal are planning to sell backup goalkeeper Runar Alex Runarsson this summer, sources have told Football Insider.
The 28-year-old has been out on loan at Belgium’s OH Leuven and Turkish side Alanyaspor over the past two seasons and is no longer part of Mikel Arteta’s first-team plans.
Iceland international Runarsson will have just 12 months remaining on his Arsenal contract at the end of the season, and the Gunners will listen to offers for his services.
The former Dijon star has started every Super Lig match for Alanyaspor this term, conceding 41 goals and keeping just four clean sheets in 23 outings.
He has also managed to establish himself as Iceland’s top shot-stopper and turned out in their 3-0 Euro 2024 qualifying loss against Bosnia on Thursday (23 March).
Runarrson could be in action for his country again against Lichtenstein on Sunday (26 March).
The 28-year-old initially joined Arsenal in 2020 after the departure of Emiliano Martinez to Aston Villa.
Prior to his two loans away from the club, Runarrson made six appearances for Arsenal in the 2020-21 campaign – conceding seven goals and keeping three clean sheets.
The Gunners have since strengthened in the goalkeeping department, adding 28-year-old shot-stopper Matt Turner from New England Revolution last summer (2022).
Turner started in most of Arsenal’s engagements in the Europa League and FA Cup this term, with Aaron Ramsdale often rested for their pursuit of a first Premier League title in 20 years.
Ramsdale has played every minute of every top-flight game this term, keeping the joint-most clean sheets of any goalkeeper in the division (12).

Arsenal sit eight points clear at the top of the table with 10 games remaining of their season.
They next face Leeds after the international break (1 April).
