Sources: Arsenal set sights on Marcus Rashford amid ‘huge’ Arteta reveal

Arsenal are monitoring the situation of Man United superstar Marcus Rashford amid continued uncertainty over his contract, sources have told Football Insider.

The 25-year-old forward was on the Gunners’ radar last year (2022) and Mikel Arteta registered his interest with the player’s camp.

The Arsenal boss is believed to be a “huge fan” of the red-hot England international.

Man United triggered Rashford‘s 12-month extension clause recently, but he is still only contracted at Old Trafford until June 2024.

The Red Devils have no intention of selling him at this stage as they believe the forward has the potential to get even better.

Rashford has notched 21 goals and eight assists in 34 appearances as a regular starter this season.

The Old Trafford youth product has found the best form of his career under Erik ten Hag, who succeeded Ralf Rangnick last summer (2022).

The England star endured a torrid time in the 2021-22 campaign – scoring just five goals in 32 appearances after losing his place in the Man United side.

Rashford also starred for Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions side at the World Cup last year (2022), scoring three goals in five appearances.

Arsenal have been hurt by the long-term injury to Gabriel Jesus – despite Eddie Nketiah proving to be a more than capable deputy.

Summer-of-2022 signing Jesus is only just returning to full training after picking up a knee injury at the World Cup in Qatar.

The Gunners could be knocked off the top of the Premier League if they are defeated by Man City on Wednesday (15 February).

Third-place Man United are well-placed to return to the Champions League next season having built a seven-point buffer to fifth-place Tottenham.
