Sources: Arsenal willing to listen to Rob Holding offers

Arsenal are open to offers for defender Rob Holding this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

The Gunners are willing to let the 27-year-old centre-back leave North London if they land a suitable replacement in the upcoming transfer window.

It is understood that a central midfielder is the top priority for Arsenal this summer, but if a target is signed quickly then focus will shift to improving the squad’s defensive depth.

Football Insider sources revealed earlier this month (7 May) that Mikel Arteta plans to hand Ben White a more central role next season.

The Spaniard intends to return White to his natural position and strengthen at right-back, with Ajax’s Devyne Rensch a potential target for that role.

If Arsenal do get a deal over the line for a new defender, it could signal the end of Holding‘s time at the club.

Holding joined the Gunners in 2016 following a £2million move from boyhood club Bolton Wanderers.

He has made 162 appearances across all competitions for Arsenal during his seven years at the club, scoring five goals in the process.

Holding has had to be patient for game time this esaon, with Arteta handing him just 17 minutes of league action prior to William Saliba’s injury in March.

Since Saliba’s back injury, however, Holding stepped in to play six consecutive 90-minute matches at centre-back, taking his total appearances for the season up to 24 in all competitions.
