Sources: Aston Villa forced to sell Douglas Luiz after £100m development
Aston Villa are likely to be forced to sell midfield ace Douglas Luiz in the summer, sources have told Football Insider.
Speaking to the new edition of Football Insider’s Insider Track Podcast, transfer correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that Unai Emery’s side will have to sell key assets to facilitate new signings in the summer.
This means the Brazilian, who is attracting interest from across Europe, could be sacrificed to pave the way for improvements across the squad.
Villa, like many clubs across the Premier League, are weary of breaking the Profit and Sustainability rules following heavy spending in previous windows.
It is believed that the Villans have set a huge £100million price tag on the midfielder, who penned a new long-term contract in October 2022.
As revealed by Football Insider last month (15 January), Liverpool have joined Barcelona in the race to sign the 25-year-old in the summer.
Arsenal have also been long-term admirers of the ex-Man City man, with sources telling Football Insider (17 December) that they have made him their top target in 2024.
The central midfielder has been a standout in the Premier League and a mainstay under Emery this season, racking up 32 appearances across all competitions.
He is one of the league’s most prolific midfielders having scored six goals and provided three assists.
