Sources: Aston Villa owners to fund big January signing blitz

Mega-rich Aston Villa owners Wes Edens and Nassef Sawiris are ready to back manager Unai Emery with more signings in the January transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.

The Midlands giants have a great opportunity to build on their great start to the 2023-24 campaign and money is likely to be available to do just that.

Villa, who have defeated Arsenal and Man City in their last two league games, have been in superb form this term but injuries in attack have the potential to really hurt them.

Football Insider revealed on Tuesday (12 December) that Emery’s side are keen to add two attacking players in the upcoming January transfer window.

One potential target is RB Salzburg midfielder Oscar Gloukh, who has recently been added to the shortlist at Villa Park.

Sources told Football Insider on Wednesday (13 December) that Villa could land Gloukh in January for a fee of around £40-50million.

He has already played 41 times for Salzburg, notching eight goals and seven assists – including two strikes in the Champions League – and is considered one of the most promising talents in Europe.

Villa are also keen to add an out-and-out striker in the new year despite the good form of Ollie Watkins.

The England international has hit 13 goals in 23 games this term but is the only senior forward option at the club – with Jhon Duran yet to make his mark since joining in January.

Emery’s side spent big to land Moussa Diaby and Pau Torres on permanent deals in the summer window, and both players have proved vital signings for the Midlands giants.

Villa are next in league action against Brentford on Sunday (17 December).
