Sources: Aston Villa plan to accept Leander Dendoncker offer

Aston Villa are willing to listen to offers for midfielder Leander Dendoncker this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

Unai Emery doesn’t see the 27-year-old as a key part of his long-term plans at the Midlands club for next season.

The Belgium international has struggled to make an impact since joining on a permanent basis from Wolves last summer (2022).

Aston Villa have already let Dendoncker know that he is free to find a new club in the off-season.

The defensive midfielder – who can also play as a centre-back – has managed just nine appearances under Emery since his arrival in October 2022.

He has made two starts under the Spaniard – the second of which saw him suffer the ignominy of being red-carded in a loss against League Two Stevenage in the FA Cup.

Dendoncker played even less under former boss Steven Gerrard – playing just 69 minutes of action across four appearances.

He is earning a reported wage of £90,000-a-week at Villa Park after completing his £13million move across the Midlands last summer (2022).

The 31-cap Belgium international carved out a successful Premier League career prior to joining Aston Villa.

He racked up 159 appearances as a key man for Wolves, notching 12 goals and four assists.

But his role at Villa has been limited, and the midfielder has played just three minutes across the last six top-flight games.

Football Insider revealed on Thursday (6 April) that the Midlands giants will also accept offers for midfield outcast Morgan Sanson this summer.

Emery’s side are making a late push to secure European qualification for the 2023-24 season.

They have leapfrogged the likes of Liverpool and Brentford into seventh in the table ahead of their clash with Nottingham Forest on Saturday (8 April).
