Sources: Aston Villa plot Pau Torres raid as offer readied

Villarreal are set to offer Pau Torres a new contract as Aston Villa plot to sign him this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

The likelihood that Torres will leave the Spanish club at the end of the season is growing and Unai Emery is keen to bring his former player to Villa Park.

The 26-year-old is also attracting interest from a number of English clubs.

The centre-back’s current contract at Villarreal runs until 2024 after signing an extension back in 2019.

In November, Football Insider revealed that the Villans have made Torres a top target for the club after Emery gave the green light to add his former player to their ranks.

Torres was on the radar of Premier League clubs including Tottenham and Man United in last year’s summer window but wanted to stay in Spain.

The Villa boss has been full of praise for Torres, who was integral to Villarreal’s turnaround when Emery was in charge saying he is an “amazing player”.

The 51-year-old added that he has “never seen a centre-back like Pau Torres” despite managing at some of the top clubs in Europe.

Torres has previously hailed his former manager and said he was “delighted” to play under the Spaniard and really enjoyed the style of football he implemented during his time at Villarreal.

The defender has made 31 appearances for Villarreal this season across all competitions and has been in the starting XI for 26 out of the 27 La Liga games he has featured in.
