Sources: Barnsley submit bid for AFC Wimbledon star Al-Hamadi

Barnsley have had a bid rejected by AFC Wimbledon for striker Ali Al-Hamadisources have told Football Insider.

The Iraqi international scored 11 goals last season and is being monitored by several other clubs in League One and the Championship.

Barnsley have been informed that they will have to increase their offer to win the race for Al-Hamadi after their bid was knocked back.

The Tykes are looking to add more firepower to their squad this summer after losing a handful of key individuals this transfer window.

After falling just short of promotion last season, Barnsley have seen as many as eight first-team stars leave the club, including former captain Mads Andersen.

Neill Collins has taken the reins as manager to try and mount another promotion push at the Yorkshire club this season.

They started the 2023/24 season superbly with a 7-0 win over Port Vale, but have since struggled with a draw against Bristol Rovers and a loss against Peterborough.

Al-Hamadi enjoyed a breakthrough season in 2022/23 with Wimbledon, scoring 10 in 19 league matches after joining the club in the January transfer window.

The 21-year-old is viewed as a very exciting prospect by the League Two club, and he has been involved in all four of Wimbledon’s games at the start of the current campaign.

Having impressed in League Two last season, Barnsley are keen to offer Al-Hamadi a route into the third tier.
