Sources: Bernardo Silva ‘open’ to joining Barcelona after £70m reveal

Man City midfielder Bernardo Silva is open to joining Barcelona this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

The La Liga giants have had a long-term interest in signing the 28-year-old and continue to keep tabs on his situation at the Etihad Stadium.

However, the £70million price tag placed on Silva by City has made Barcelona hesitant to move for the Portuguese playmaker amid their financial struggles.

Barcelona showed interest in signing Silva last summer, but a move never came to fruition.

The player himself has told friends he is keen on a move to the Spanish giants, sources say, in the summer.

Silva remains a key player to Pep Guardiola having made 35 appearances across all competitions for City this season.

He has appeared in every Champions League game for City season and played the full 90 minutes in their round of 16 tie against Red Bull Leipzig earlier this week.

After starting his career in Portugal with Benfica, Silva joined Monaco in 2015 and caught the eye of scouts across Europe after helping the club win the Ligue Un title in 2016/17.

A £43million move to City followed in May 2017 and Silva has gone on to make a total of 286 appearances for the Premier League champions, scoring 51 and assisting 56 times during his six years at the club.

After winning the league with both Benfica and Monaco, Silva has added four Premier League medals to his cabinet as well as four League Cup titles and an FA Cup.

Silva has also made 78 caps for Portugal after making his international debut in 2015, but missed out on the nation’s Euro 2016 triumph through injury.
