Sources: Big update on Burnley star Manuel Benson’s move to Southampton after offer accepted

Manuel Benson’s loan move from Burnley to Southampton has stalled despite the Championship side seeing an offer accepted, sources have told Football Insider.

The two clubs agreed a £1million loan fee and for the Saints to cover Benson’s wages for the duration of the agreement.

But now the deal is on the verge of collapse and other interested clubs are back in the race for the 26-year-old’s signature.

Benson has played just five times across all competitions this season, with those outings totalling 100 minutes of action.

He joined Burnley from Royal Antwerp on a permanent basis in 2022 and was crucial to their promotion back to the Premier League last term.

The winger made 40 appearances in the 2022-23 campaign, notching 14 goals and five assists.

He has also had spells at Lierse SK, PEC Zwolle, KRC Genk and Mouscron.

Benson is under contract at Turf Moor until June 2027 after penning an extension just last summer (2023).

But the likes of Wilson Odobert, Zeki Amdouni and Jacob Bruun Larsen have been preferred to the Belgian by manager Vincent Kompany this season.

Southampton moved for the 26-year-old as they target promotion back to the Premier League this term.

Tottenham

Russell Martin’s side sit third in the Championship and are unbeaten since September.

However, the Saints are keen to avoid an overreliance on star man Adam Armstrong and want to add goalscoring threat elsewhere in their side.
