Sources: Big update on Liverpool and Joao Palhinha ahead of January

Liverpool are unlikely to swoop for Fulham star Joao Palhinha in the January transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.

The Reds, alongside Premier League title rivals Arsenal, have been widely linked with a potential move for the Portugal international.

Palhinha came within a whisker of joining Bayern Munich in the most recent summer window before the deal collapsed at the eleventh hour.

Football Insider revealed on Friday (15 December) that Bayern remain interested in a potential January move for the Fulham star.

However, it is believed the German giants are prioritising a move for a centre-back in the new year.

Liverpool have made the decision they are unlikely to firm up their interest in Palhinha next month following their mega-money midfield overhaul in the summer.

Wataru Endo, Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister all arrived at Anfield during the off-season.

A well-placed source has told Football Insider that Fulham star Palhinha is not a “top priority” for Jurgen Klopp and his recruitment staff at this time.

Palhinha signed a new contract in September running until June 2028 but could still move on from Craven Cottage in the new year.

Fulham boss Marco Silva has recently spoken out about the midfielder, claiming he expects interest in his services in January and suggesting “10-15 clubs” are discussing a potential swoop.

The London club stand to make a big profit on the midfielder, who they signed from Sporting CP reported fee of just £20million in 2022.

Palhinha has made 16 appearances so far in the 2023-24 campaign, notching two goals and one assist.

He is a regular for Portugal ahead of the European Championships in Germany next year.
